What happens during a coaching session?
At the beginning of the call, tell your coach your agenda for the session. You may want to address a recent challenge or hurdle you have encountered, brainstorm how best to leverage a recent accomplishment, or further clarify your goals. It is up to you. Your coach will then ask you questions, and may make observations. You and your coach together will then agree on your action steps to complete by the next session. As a service to my clients, I follow up each session with an e-mail summarizing the discussion and action steps.
What kind of person hires a coach?
People who hire a coach are motivated. They have achieved some level of success and want to take it further. People with all types of backgrounds hire coaches: business people, lawyers, consultants, entrepreneurs, and many others. I specialize in working with professionals who feel stuck in the rat race and want to do something about it.
How is coaching different from therapy?
Coaching is very different from therapy. Therapy asks "Why?" Coaching asks "What?" and "How?" Therapy looks to the past for explanations. Coaching looks to the present and future for action and success. Therapy assumes that part of the client is broken and must be fixed. Coaching assumes that the client is whole and wants to become exceptional. If you need therapy, call a therapist. If you want to be coached toward greater success, call me.
 Is coaching worth the money?
It depends. (I know that wasn't the answer you were expecting.) If you are ready to do the work that comes with coaching, then the answer is yes, absolutely. Coaching is a wonderful investment to make in yourself. However, if you are looking for a magic pill, then no, it isn't worth it. Another way to think about it: If you join a good gym, hire a personal trainer, and work out 4 days a week for three months, are you going to see results? Of course you are. But if you join a good gym and then never go? No results, and a waste of your money. If you are not sure if you are ready for coaching, call me for a sample session. It's free, and it's a great way to discover if coaching is right for you.
How long does a typical client use coaching?
It varies. Some clients want support through a particular transition period. Others want ongoing support. Expect to be coached for a minimum of three months to achieve meaningful results.
