The Power of Full Engagement
Elevated stress levels, over time, can lead to poor health, poor relationships, and burnout. How does someone in the rat race cope with the stress? This book challenges readers to manage their energy levels instead of managing time, stating "Because energy capacity diminishes both with overuse and with underuse, we must balance energy expenditure with intermittent energy renewal." The book gives many examples of professionals heading towards burnout, and the steps they took to reclaim their energy levels.
7 Habits of Highly Effective People
The classic. But have you really read and absorbed it? How much time are you spending on Quadrant II and PC activities? Habit #3: Putting First Things First is one that many professionals need to focus on to avoid burnout. If you spend your time fighting fires and you are frequently in crisis mode, then you need to read or re-read this book.
Body for Life
This book issues a challenge for the reader to follow an intense 12 week program of nutrition and exercise. It is a mental challenge to stick with the program, and the authors support you by giving great tips on how to set and achieve your goals. There are many motivational before and after pictures of people with astounding results. Yes, the program is hard. And yes, I have completed it.
What Should I Do with My Life?
When the author asked himself this question, he decided to find out how others had answered it. He interviewed hundreds of people, and includes 50 of their stories in this book. The stories show people at turning points in their careers and lives and how they struggle with their decisions. Some succeed and some do not. The book may raise more questions than provide answers, but it can be comforting to know that you are not alone.
